ABN Interiors vs Carpenter

What To Go For?

Premium Or Budget Modular Kitchen ............
Suggestion by – ABNs’ Kitchen

Everything comes with a price these days. This rule applies even to your trendy modular kitchen. The more money you spend to dress up your kitchen space, the better will be the quality of the material. With the concept of modular kitchens becoming a norm today, many of you will be confused whether to opt for a branded modular kitchen or go for a basic budget modular kitchen? Here is a comparison between these two types of kitchens and how they add value to your culinary space.

Let us first be clear about what is a modular kitchen. It is essentially a kitchen that is completely fabricated in a factory and installed in components in your kitchen. It is entirely removable and re-installable. Hence the name, `modular’.

There are two ways of doing this – getting executives of a kitchen company like Sleek, Veneta Cucine & our ABN to visit your kitchen, go through its dimensions, draw out designs and then show it to you. You choose the design according to your preferences. They then go to the factory to mould out your kitchen components and return maybe in a month or so and install the kitchen within two days.

Or you could go in for a budget kitchen, with a carpenter or a local shop doing the same drawings, getting the material and making the kitchen part by part in your home. This may take a month or more to be completed.

Both these approaches are doable with some obvious differences in them. Not least of which will be the price.

Quality:

A branded kitchen will come with a certain quality to it. A branded modular kitchen for instance, will be made of marine ply which is tough to withstand heat and water, and will have a longer lifespan than other materials. It will boast of high quality fittings, perhaps branded fittings with soft close drawers and the likes. In case of a budgeted/ carpenter made modular kitchen, you would obviously cut costs with normal fittings instead of something high end.

ABNs’ Kitchen Concepts says, “A branded modular kitchen is done with the required materials, color choice and seven to eight accessories to meet the needs of the kitchen.” As expected these will be expensive as well.

On the other hand, budget kitchens can be done with inexpensive materials and within a constrained budget. These kitchens could have cabinets and shutters, with no internal accessories like pull-out or cutlery drawers that are otherwise used in a premium modular kitchen. The wear and tear of these materials is also higher.

Repairs and Replacement:

“In a budgeted modular kitchen, the repair, replacement and maintenance cost may even exceed the sum spent on a quality premium kitchen work,” explains. A branded kitchen on the other hand will offer certain guarantees on components used.

Finish of kitchen:

The finish of a branded kitchen will be obviously smoother, more luxurious and classier than kitchens hand made by a carpenter. A kitchen with factory made drawers, platforms, cabinet shutters and carcasses will definitely be cleaner cut than those made by a carpenter. The machine finish that you will get in a branded kitchen will not match with the roughness of a carpenter’s work, however good he may be.

Long lasting kitchens:

The only advantage of a budget kitchen is that you will be satisfied with the low cost involved in doing up your kitchen. However, they may not be suitable in the long run.

For best kitchens, mix and match:

Ultimately, going for a branded modular kitchen or a budget kitchen depends on the pocket size of the customers. Ideally, go for a mix and match. Many kitchen designers nowadays get factory made shutters and carcasses that are easy to install and can withstand the rigors of Indian cooking. Your budget can decide the material you need for your shutters or cabinets, but you could let the machines cut and mould these components out for you.

So before going blindly either for a branded or a budget kitchen, check out on both and go for long lasting materials with good finish and easy maintenance.
